The second celebration of the NEXT Conference revolves around information, the driving force of the digital era, with particular focus on three aspects that are playing an increasingly more important role and becoming future values: service, quality and proximity.
The digitalisation of the communications industry has already brought about countless changes that are creating a new media reality. Information is the core value of this milieu, and as a content its primary contribution is service value. Thanks to digital technology, sending information has become an effortless task that is transforming both producers and receivers alike. This makes it necessary to analyse what central values of information will be prevalent in the digital era.
If it is true that constant change defines the reality of our century, it is also certain that information has changed in recent years, evolving from a product content to a service content. In this new form, new values can be incorporated into information, which in turn can be differentiated from other types of contents. To guarantee the informative nature of information, quality must become the number one sought-after value. At the same time, we are currently watching distances disappear, leading to changes in professional routines and audience needs. As a result, the local dimension is taking centre stage. Proximity is taking on new forms and enabling information content to include local values.
